The Council considers rail as a fundamental component in the local and international trade, specifically South Africa's strategy to become a net exporting company. To achieve this, the clients want information about the position of there cargo in the system, such as where product will be consolidated, what time the train will depart and arrive, process and customs information.
It is the view of the South African Shippers Council that Transnet Freight Rail should:
- Run trains efficiently
- Understand the different segments of various industries, where they are headed and what the long term outlook is.
- Ensure customer satisfaction, unwavering commitment to customer service delivery
- Integrate the rail component of the supply chain with adjoining components like Transnet Terminals in order to increase supply chain efficiency and reliability at the lowest possible cost.
- Be the core to the industry w.r.t transporting cargo.
- Give an integrated focused service (the Operations and the Infrastructure entity).
- Concentrate and focus on Freight Transport throughout Southern Africa
- Need to invest in the business to make sure that they have assets and rolling stock to meet client needs.
- Regaining credibility in the market place / industries.
- Stabilise the business w.r.t structures and manning.
- Provide a safe and reliable service to customers.
- Drive the competitiveness of the South African Transport Economy
