GENERAL

The South African Shippers' Council considers a healthy marine shipping industry as fundamental to a competitive economy in South Africa.

POLICY STATEMENTS 

International safety standards should be applied. The safety standards should be continiously reviewed and updated where necessary to be brought into line with world standards.

  • International environmental standards should be applied. The environmental standards concerning marine pollution should be reviewed and updated where necessary to be brought into line with world standards
  • Ports are of strategic importance and shall be State controlled
  • It is appreciated that various modes of marine shipping are used. It is the Councils view that every mode should enjoy rightfull attention from the Port Authorities
